The Starting Point – Health

For a couple of weeks now, I’ve been thinking about of how to realign my priorities in life. (Read: The Journey Begins) To me, it seems obvious that the number one priority in anyone’s life should be their health, so that is what I’m going to start with.

Why is this so important? Think about it, of all the things that can be a part of your life, would you choose anything over health? How would you enjoy all the money you have slogged to earn if you don’t have your health? How would you enjoy spending time with your loved ones if you don’t feel healthy?

Now when I think about health, it could comprise of both physical and mental health, and it’s important to feel equally good about both of them. So after due consideration, I managed to write the first few goals for this new year.

  • Exercise: This year I will work out for at least¬†4 days every week.
  • Meditate: This year I will meditate for at least 4 days every week. Nothing fancy, just concentrating on my breath for 10 minutes every day.
  • What I eat:¬†Although I don’t have a particular goal in mind for this one. However, I do want to start eating healthy in general. More raw food over processed ones. More home cooked meals over takeouts. Hopefully, this will also give me a chance to take up cooking, something I’ve been meaning to do for a while now.

So if you’re also trying to make a change in your life and are having trouble figuring out the first steps, this to me seems like a perfect way to start.

As for myself, I will update this post at the end of every month to evaluate how I’m fairing with my health goals. Hopefully, this will create a sense of accountability.

Are you looking to make changes in your life too? What is stopping you? What are your health goals this year?

Update Feb 1, 2018:

Although I’m able to fair pretty well on exercising and meditating 4 days every week, I’m not able to maintain a healthy eating habit. Even though I’ve been successful in controlling my urge to eat packed food, there is still a long way to go.

Just the other day I was eating something called the Chocolaty Devil. Don’t even get me started on its contents. Anyways, I’m going to try and cook more often in February and avoid ordering.
